I met a
girl at the gym who looked familiar.
I thought
perhaps we went to the same school (which proves I am in severe denial about
how old I look, because it turns out she’s about six years younger than I am)
so I asked her which school she went to.
A few
minutes later we’re having a perfectly pleasant conversation about things that
strangers usually talk about, and then she pop in this question:
‘So, are
you married?’
Me: ‘No.’
She, with
an understanding nod: ‘Ahhh, so that’s why you’re working out?’
Um. No. Strangely
enough, I’m not running on a treadmill just so I can catch a man. This is just
for me.
Yup. That’s
what I should’ve said.
Instead I went with, ‘Um. No.’
The thing
with boundaries in India
is, there sometimes aren’t any.
